Blogging has brought a new dimension to my life where I can pen my thoughts, pent up feelings, fear, pain without any fear of remorse; where I am, at times, alone but Never Really alone in blogsphere. A place that I can almost call, "Home" where I can just blog away about anything that touches my heart strings. However do remember the recipes I upload are what I have learnt and the notes are my personal notes and the remarks are my own opinion.
Wow it was hectic the past 6 days. Besides the normal household chores, made the fondant flowers & butterflies in the nite. It took up so much of my dinning table & table top space & it culminated with baking two 10" Chocolate cakes & frosting them the next day. Phew it felt good that I can now relax a little.
Making a template & snapping it for easy assembling!!!
Drying some of the flowers & butterflies in "foamer" & then placing them together with some flat flowers did give a 3D effect!!!
When I baked my Chocolate cake recently for a family birthday, I made some fondant Daisies & placed it on top of the cake just for a different effect & the result was, the cake was greeted with much excitement from the birthday guests & it also culminated in one of the guests ordering my Chocolate cake for her daughter's birthday. She told me to make Blue & White flowers & gave me a free hand with regard to the fondant decor & I decided to make 2 small sizes of Daisies; made them Blue & White & 3 sizes of Yellow Butterflies as I thought it would blend very nicely with the flowers.
I learnt to make my own Fondant 2 years ago but never made the overture to do same until recently when a good friend requested me to make her Wedding cake!!! I was thrilled & at the same time a little scared as inspite of learning to make Fondant & some simple flowers, I never tried doing same as I did not find the occasion for same so when the request for the wedding cake came, I took the bull by the horns & started making the fondant flowers; baby steps first with the daisies & from there I want to practise on some other flowers like Calla Lilies as I have been fascinated with Lilies!!!
A picture of my first attempt at making the fondant flowers on my Chocolate Moist cake.
Can't wait to put these on my Chocolate cake tomorrow with its sexy black colour, the colour combination of the daisies & butterflies would be awesome.
One of a pre-requisites of a Nyonya's kitchen is stocking things like Gula Melaka, Santan [fresh or otherwise] & not to forget to mention things like Belacan, Chillies, etc, etc, & more than likely, you can also find Pandan, Limau Perut plant, Mint, Kelsom, etc. etc. in the back yard.
So when a good friend told me she was dropping by to collect the Salt Fish Pickle that she ordered from me, I decided that since I have Gula Melaka & UHT Santan & of course, Pandan leaves in the garden, I would bake a Gula Melaka Chiffon cake, which was light, not so sweet & the lingering aroma of the Pandan & Gula Melaka. I always used to make Orange & Pandan Chiffon cake & have been meaning to bake this Gula Melaka Chiffon since I learnt same & finally I had a reason to do this :)
