Blogging has brought a new dimension to my life where I can pen my thoughts, pent up feelings, fear, pain without any fear of remorse; where I am, at times, alone but Never Really alone in blogsphere. A place that I can almost call, "Home" where I can just blog away about anything that touches my heart strings. However do remember the recipes I upload are what I have learnt and the notes are my personal notes and the remarks are my own opinion.
Yay finally I baked 2 small Orange cakes two days ago; baked two just for insurance in case I spoil one cake.
Then I made the Butter Icing today, as I needed to bring something for fellowship and thought that this time I would bring the Barbi for the children. Made a Fondant dress for Barbara & a Butter Cream dress for Kelly. Yes I named the dolls Barbara and Kelly :)
I have always been fascinated with Barbi dolls and I knew that the next project I wanted to tackle, when I had time at my disposal, was to, first, make a gum paste dress for my Barbi & then bake a cake & insert my Barbi in the cake.
Well, I have never attempted moulding a dress from scratch nor for that matter, baked a tiny cake that would matching nicely, in terms of the height, with the doll. I dug deep into all my boxes to find a mould I could use for a top. I started with a heart mould, & I had so many, many different heart moulds but the top became too revealing!!! Then I found a mould that was primarily for making Orchids which seemed purrfect for me as the top of the mould made it look like scallops. I started with a White Fondant then I used Red & Blue Dust to get the slight purple look, as I love Purple!!! Then I noticed that the scallops were not noticeable so I used a Blue paste and painted the top of the scallops & voila, I was happy that the Blue gave it a nice touch. Then I steamed the colors with the aid of a boiling kettle of water, got the tip from various online tutorial & the steaming made the Blue even more prominent!!!
I have always been one who could not resist buying things that took my fancy & there are times when that would be "sleeping" in a box until one day when I find a use for same so I was glad that I bought would now serve as a bottom part of her dress so I need to find some time next week to bake the cake and keeping my fingers crossed that cake wouldn't be a problem.
Can't wait to find time in my schedule to experiment with baking the cake!!! Till my next post, xoxo, Ophelia.
As my niece would say, "An Elephant thing!!!" She loves to add the word "thing" to express Joy!!! Yup my little is far from perfect but I am happy!!! In case you are wondering why I am using an Orange gum paste to make the Elephant!!! Well simply because I had no more gum paste except the Orange & just wanted to appease the creative urge!!!
Making her head & trunk was hard!!! And needed something to support it as can be seen at the next picture!!!
There you go darling!!! Rest on it!!!
Yay after resting her trunk on the container for a few hours, the trunk is now stable.
Inserting an ice cream stick from the body through the head but pressed a little too hard & the stick emerged!!! No worries just added a flower to hide same!!!
Wow, it has been quite a while since I last posted been caught up with a few cake orders plus working on a gum paste animal project. I bought The Mat manufactured by Streetwise Inc & ordered it on line!!! Was so excited when it arrived before CNY but I have been too busy, with the CNY cake orders, to mould gum paste animals so that after all the dust had settled, I started moulding.
I haven't moulded a dog before and I started searching the net for youtube tutorials to get some idea how to do same. I found that the hardest was attaching the ears as was hard trying to beat gravity!!! One of Ellie's ears keep flopping down BUT I did not let it defeat me!!! I was very patient & waited the ears to stand instead of flopping down and finally, I succeeded!!!
One ear curled up & one ear down!!!
Yay I am now happy!!! Till my next post, xoxo, Ophelia.
